Hello and welcome! In Aggie speak I should technically say 'Howdy', but not everyone knows about the great university located in College Station, Texas. I hail from Texas but live in Florida. One husband, two cats...that's my tiny little family. Expanded a bit, our parents are back in Texas along with our brothers and my sister in law and cute as pie niece Zoe.
What's written here:
- Just about whatever comes out of my head, but also gardening, nature, hiking and the outdoors most prominently, with blurbs about politics and current events, family and I throw in a bit of art and photography to round it off.
- Camera wise, I shoot with a Canon Rebel T1i. I love it! I originally started off with a Canon Rebel Xti but it went to camera heaven and now I shoot with this 15 megapixel beauty. My shooting philosophy is to try to shoot as much of the photo in the camera with minimal editing afterwards. If I edit it is to add some contrast or adjust a bit of my ISO if I over or under expose. Sometimes a pinch of clairity or turn a photo to black and white (though I really love shooting with a red filter for a deep black and white straight out of the camera). But, I do get artsy and I think it's important to note when a photo has been turned into a fine art piece.
- We love to hike and have done several pieces of the Florida Trail, the longest being the Ocean to Lake segment from Lake Okeechobee to Hobe Sound. Backpacking and hiking is one of the best ways to reconnect with nature and to start learning about the surroundings you live in. Get a field guide and start noting the plants, insects, mammals and birds you see!
- Gardening will also help you in the natural world. Not only does gardening provide some quality time outdoors, the benefits of returning your yard to a more natural state with native plants will entice animals to come and enjoy your yard, too. Don't worry if you get a few snakes---they will keep your rodent population down!
- Eventually we'd love to sell our photography, so if you see a photo you really must have, please send me an email at oceanicwilderness at gmail dot com for price quotes and sizes.
